Laparoscopic Acidity Surgery

Laparoscopic fundoplication, commonly known as acidity surgery, is the gold standard surgical treatment for severe GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). This procedure addresses chronic acid reflux when medications fail or patients develop complications. Surgery reconstructs the body's natural anti-reflux mechanism by wrapping the upper portion of the stomach around the lower esophagus, creating a new functional valve. The laparoscopic procedure is performed under general anesthesia with 4-5 small incisions. The fundus is wrapped and sutured around the esophageal junction, creating a 360-degree (Nissen) or partial wrap. Laparoscopic fundoplication relieves symptoms in 80-90% of patients, reduces medication needs, and prevents complications. Patients benefit from smaller scars, less pain, short hospital stays, and recovery in 2-3 weeks with modified diet.
